"Dr. D" David Schultz - Funny & Scary man
"Dr. D" was a well traveled southern wrestler in the early 1980's. He landed in the AWA, where he did this interview. Interviewer "Mean" Gene Okerlund completely loses it when Schultz talks about going to San Francisco and finding transvestites.
Seems like a funny guy, right?
When Vince McMahon decided to take his WWF national in 1984 Schultz was one of the first wrestlers he signed up. He was one of Hulk Hogan's top foes that year.
Then, in early 1985, John Stossel and 20/20 decided to do a story of what was then percieved as a "wrestling boom." In doing his piece Stossel talked with "Dr. D" and the resulting interview wasn't so nice.
Schultz was fired from the WWF shortly after that. Some say he was fired for the slaps to Stossel, even though that incident got the WWF much needed publicity (file under: any publicity is good publicity).
Others have said that he was actually fired for an icident with A-Team actor Mr. T. When T, at the height of his fame, started working with the WWF Schultz thought he should feud with him. "D and T," he would say behind the scenes to whoever would listen. Vince McMahon didn't like that idea. His idea turned down, Schultz attacked T backstage and off-camera at a show. Schultz was gone immediately.
"Dr. D" wrestled periodically after these incidents, although from most accounts big promoters were scared to use him.
He later became a bounty hunter, and in the early 1990's outed Hulk Hogan as the Tampa cocaine and steroid connection to wrestling.
